A Journey of Reflection, From Mogadishu to Mandera
Life is a journey filled with experiences that shape our understanding of the world. My recent travels from Mogadishu to Mandera, passing through Dolow and Balad Hawo, provided me with a deep insight into the challenges my people face and the stark contrasts that exist across our borders. This journey was not just about moving from one place to another; it was about witnessing the resilience of the Somali people and reflecting on the path to peace and progress.
Mogadishu to Dolow: A Flight into Reality
My journey began with a flight from Mogadishu to Dolow. The aerial view of our beautiful land was breathtaking, but upon landing in Dolow, the reality on the ground quickly set in. Dolow is controlled by Ethiopian troops, and their presence is felt in every aspect of daily life. The challenges faced by the local population are immense. Limited access to resources, ongoing security concerns, and the strain of living under military control have taken their toll on the people. Yet, in the midst of these difficulties, I saw a community that remains strong, hopeful, and determined to move forward.
Dolow to Balad Hawo: A Road of Reflection
From Dolow, I continued my journey by car to Balad Hawo. The road was long and winding, giving me time to reflect on the hardships faced by our people. In Balad Hawo, the challenges were different but no less severe. As a border town, Balad Hawo is caught in the complexities of cross-border trade and security issues. The town's proximity to Kenya brings both opportunities and obstacles, as the people navigate the delicate balance of cultural ties and economic needs. Despite these challenges, the spirit of Balad Hawo’s residents shines through, as they continue to persevere in the face of adversity.
Crossing into Mandera: A World Apart
Crossing the border into Mandera, Kenya, was a moment of profound realization. The difference between Balad Hawo and Mandera was striking. While both towns share a cultural connection, the contrast in development, infrastructure, and opportunities was evident. Mandera, though not without its own challenges, offered a glimpse of what could be achieved with stability and investment. It was a reminder that our people, regardless of where they live, deserve the chance to thrive in a peaceful and prosperous environment.
In Conclusion My journey from Mogadishu to Mandera was a journey of discovery and reflection. The challenges faced by our people in Dolow and Balad Hawo are significant, but so is their resilience and hope for a better future. The stark differences I witnessed between Balad Hawo and Mandera underscored the importance of peace and stability for the progress of our nation.
As I reflect on this journey, I am reminded of the urgent need for unity and peace among the Somali people. We must work together to overcome the obstacles that stand in our way and build a future where every Somali, regardless of where they live, can move forward with dignity and hope.
